I’m currently an apprentice Civil Engineer, so I am at the start of my career pathway. I should finish my apprenticeship in September this year and I am looking forward to progress onto becoming a Trainee Technician in Civil Engineer.

I run the electrical department in my office, so I am reasonably high in my company, but I have been doing this for a while. However, as an engineer, I have a long way to go. Engineers have ranks outside of their offices, or work, which are sort of like qualifications … But they are extras to qualifications and they show your experience. In order low to high it goes EngTech (Engineering Technician), IEng (Incorporated Engineer), and CEng (Chartered Engineer). Chartered Engineers are like the top dogs and the ones who really influence the industries. To become one of those you need certain qualifications as well as a lot of experience and knowledge which you have to prove in front of a council! I’m currently an EngTech.

I’m right at the starting point of my career, so not very high at all, yet! I still have a lot of learning to do and experience to gain before I can receive a particular status within the company.

I’m still at the beginning of my career – I joined the company I work for as an Apprentice Engineer and am now a Junior engineer.
I’m hoping that I can continue to progress over the coming years.
