Being an Apprentice in Civil Engineering is great! It has allowed me to learn and experience the many different types of engineering there is in civils. This includes the quality side, planning, designing etc. It has helped me gain the knowledge within every area, so I’m more experienced with dealing with any engineering problems. Most importantly it has shown me what I would be doing on a daily basis to help decide whether I actually enjoy the job and if I want to continue doing engineering after my apprenticeship. (which yes I do, I really enjoy my daily job!) I get a lot of support and help with my work which helps me to progress a lot. At first it is very daunting being the person who is the new starter but I found everyone was really nice and friendly and you will start to make great contacts for the future. The hardness of your work and level of responsibility will progress within what you are capable of from your knowledge, so you will never get thrown in at the deep end! It’s a really great opportunity, if you know what you want to do! Personally, it has allowed me to have hands on experience within Engineering which university wouldn’t give me. It’s a great way to start a job within a career where you get paid and can learn. I Hope this answers your questions. If you want to know anything more about what you may do daily as a Civil Engineer apprentice, I’ll happily answer it for you!
